Golden Eagles fall to Paradise Honors in home finale

In their last home game of the season Tuesday night, the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagles got off to a slow start and despite a fourth-quarter rally, fell to the Paradise Honors Panthers, 41-24.

Paradise Honors started the game with a 14-0 run and held the Golden Eagles to just two points in the first quarter.

“We came here focused,” Paradise Honors coach Lynn Ramage said. “Knowing what we had to do and knowing that we had to do it well.”

Changes abound for Bourgade Catholic softball squad

Coming off of yet another winning season, the Bourgade Catholic softball team looks to remain dominant as the Golden Eagles head into the new season with conference, roster, and coaching changes.

Michael Espinoza is just the second person to serve as Bourgade Catholic’s varsity softball head coach, a position previously held by JinHee Huff from 2007-2018.

So far, Espinoza’s transition has been “smooth,” with him being pleased with the work ethic and dedication he’s seen during preseason workou

Golden Eagles softball run-ruled at home in PCDS Classic

Bourgade Catholic softball continued to struggle on Friday afternoon in the PCDS Classic tournament, falling to Northland Prep (2-0), 15-4.

The Golden Eagles were without two of their three starting seniors because of an annual spiritual retreat, propelling freshman and sophomore players from junior varsity up to varsity to fill in.

Bourgade Catholic coach Mike Espinoza said the team is struggling within the circle and remain shaky on defense, but he is pleased with the team’s effort hitting.

Walk-off score lifts Bourgade Catholic past Camp Verde

In a back-and-forth contest Saturday afternoon, which had three lead changes and two ties, the Golden Eagles defeated the Camp Verde Cowboys (7-5, 2-0), 15-14.

“It was the best feeling in the world to go 10 innings and win it all,” freshman outfielder Alize Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez hit a single that was boggled by Camp Verde’s first baseman, which allowed Bourgade Catholic’s senior utility player, Olivia Sitcler, to score the game-winning run.

“I knew what I had to do, I knew I needed to sco

Bourgade robotics is more than just a club

Every Saturday, 20 students gather in a small Bourgade Catholic classroom to contribute to the construction and design of a robot.

While the pressures of competitive robotics can fracture a team, this club’s main objective is to have fun and stick together.

“We go out there to have fun,” junior David Segovia Gutierrez said. “That’s what we’re all about.”

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) calls robotics the “sport of the mind,” but makes sure to emphasize studen

Artis-Payne, Jones lift Renegades to Week 2 win

CARSON, Calif. -- The Dallas Renegades relied on their run game in the second half of a turnover-heavy game to beat the Los Angeles Wildcats in their home opener, 25-18.

Running back Cameron Artis-Payne sealed the game for the Renegades down the stretch, scoring two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

“I was just running,” Payne said. “We’ve been focusing on finishing, so at the end of the day once we got down there, there was nothing else but to score.

Offense and Defense Key To LA's First Win

LA had four interceptions and one fumble recovery after safety Jack Tocho blocked a punt, which gave the Wildcats prime field position at DC's 2-yard line. Running back Larry Rose would punch it in from one yard out, which extended the Wildcats’ lead to 27-0.

The Defenders would get on the board before halftime off of a 32-yard FG from kicker Ty Rausa, making the score 27-3.

LA set the tone defensively on DC's first drive of the game by intercepting quarterback Cardale Jones.

Wildcats face adversity, respond in Week 5 victory

Despite a botched punt return by the Wildcats at the 8:52 mark that led to another Tampa TD, which extended the Vipers lead to 24-6, the Wildcats answered with two touchdowns in the final minutes of the first half to make it 24-20 at the break.

“We had an issue last week where I felt like as a team, even myself, we lost our poise when we got hit in the mouth,” Johnson said. “That was one of the things we wanted to improve on this week; (Sunday), we responded well.”

Wildcats: 3 takeaways from Week 5

CARSON, Calif. -- Three takeways from the LA Wildcats' 41-34 win over the Tampa Bay Vipers at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday night:

Coming into Week 5, quarterback Josh Johnson had played pretty sound football -- completing 62 percent of his passes, registering seven touchdowns against only one interception. Though Sunday's game started rough for the veteran QB -- throwing an interception on the Wildcats’ first play from scrimmage and losing a fumble off of an early scramble -- Johnson wo
